N5.4billion recovered from Nigeria’s Health Insurance Scheme by the EFCC

N5.4 billion has been recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Professor Muhammad Nasir Sambo, the NHIS Executive Secretary, revealed this on Thursday while leading the agency’s management on a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

Wilson Uwajaren, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, gave this information in a statement on Thursday.

“In total, the EFCC has been able to recover about N5.4 billion for us out of the N12.085 billion that has been trapped; this is a monumental achievement and that is why we will ensure that we remain good partners to the EFCC,” he said.

Sambo praised the EFCC for the seizures and promised that every kobo seized will be wisely spent.

He also informed the EFCC about the NHIS’s reform initiatives, which include recruiting health professionals to strengthen the scheme.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the EFCC Chairman, who was represented by Abdulkarim Chukkol, the agency’s Director of Operations, restated the Commission’s commitment to working with the NHIS to attain universal health coverage in his response.
