A ‘long-time’ Manchester City fan died on his way to the Emirates Stadium to watch his beloved Blues play Arsenal yesterday.

News of the tragedy was revealed by the club on social media.

City fans have been paying their tributes to him and sending their thoughts and best wishes to his family.

The club sent its ‘sincere condolences’.

The supporter hasn’t been named and no further details have been released formerly by the club.

City’s tweet was posted after two goals by Kevin de Bruyne and a Raheem Sterling strike saw off Arsenal in the Premier League.

The club confirmed the fan sadly passed away ‘on his way to attending the game at Arsenal’.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the club said: “Manchester City wishes to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of a long-time City supporter who passed away today on his way to attending the game at Arsenal.

“The thoughts of all at the club are with the family and loved ones at this very sad time.”

Posters on the Manchester City forum Bluemoon also paid their condolences to the man’s family and his friends.

Fans also sent their best wishes in response to the club’s tweet, with the post attracting more than 600 comments.

Supporters of other clubs also left tributes.

One poster said on Twitter: “Rest in Peace, this win was for you. Sending love and condolences to the family right now.”

“That’s sad news. Thoughts with his family at this time,” another added.

One supporter said: “Deepest condolences to all who loved him. RIP. May God bless you.”
