Ghanaian legislator and maverick politician, Kennedy Agyapong has shown great interest in the Islamic faith and has chosen a Muslim name” Sheik Osman”.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, Islam is a religion of peace and Muslim brothers and sisters should live according to the dictates of the religion by avoiding violence and preach about peace.
He revealed that the name was given to him by the Muslim community in Madina after he had realized their contribution to national development and gave them airtime on both radio and Television for soul touching and other development-oriented Islamic programmes.
He disclosed this in his recent visit to the National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu where he made a donation towards the just ended Eid-Edul Fitr celebrations.
Additionally, he stated that he had lived with Muslim friends in Pakistan and was fully convinced the religion was indeed a religion of peace and could enhance development in the areas in which it is been practiced.
He was, however, worried the Muslim youth in Ghana allowed themselves to be used in perpetrating violence and crime to the detriment of their most cherished religion for the selfish interest of others.
He appealed to the various stakeholders of the Islamic faith to contribute towards this worthy course which will eventually take away the erroneous impression of Islam associated with poverty and underdevelopment.
“The time has come for our Muslim brothers and sisters in Ghana to make the religion more attractive to the unbelievers.”, he said.
He further disclosed that he did not feel ashamed being associated with the Islam which was perceived a northern religion expressing his readiness to visit the north in future.
