Former Manchester United manager and Portuguese international, Jose Mourinho has been sentenced to one year in prison – details are as follows.
The sentence comes after Jose Mourinho was found guilty for tax invasion by Spanish Tax Authorities.
Reports also state that the former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss, has agreed to a one-year jail term deal in a settlement agreement reached between his attorneys and the Spanish tax authorities on charges of tax fraud.
Mourinho would spend no time in prison as part of the deal but would exchange his one year sentence for a fine of €182,500. He would pay a further €2m fine as part of the settlement.
The taxes stem from earnings on his image rights, which according to prosecutors were paid through a series of offshore accounts to hide them from tax authorities.
Mourinho is hardly the first or football tax cheat to be caught by authorities in Spain. World-renowned stars such as Lionel Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar Jnr have all faced questions of tax evasion and both Ronaldo and Marcelo have accepted similar suspended jail sentences.
