The inspector general of police Christian Tetteh Yohunu has promoted a total of 12,802 police officer ranging from Lance Corporal to Chief Inspectors.
The recent act of the IGP comes after a long standing of delayed promotions that hasn’t been done over a period of time.
According to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Secretariat, the promotions were based on factors such as promotion exams, seniority, length of service, and outstanding performance.
Regulation 37 of CI 76 outlines the criteria for promotions, including special recommendations for acts of bravery or outstanding duty performance.
Responding to earlier speculations made by the media on how authentic and well deserving the promotions of the police officers were, the secretariat of the police force revealed that the promotions were supervised by various units, districts, and regional commanders across the country’s 25 police regions.
The Secretariat explained that all units were requested to submit names of officers due for promotion, ensuring a fair and transparent process.
Furthermore the secretariat revealed that a breakdown of the promotions shows that approximately 11,900 junior officers were elevated to the next rank, while 600 officers were promoted based on special recommendations.
The promotion is set to recognize and reward officers’ hard work and dedication to duty whiles encouraging more people to do better in serving their country.
