I have not retired from Black Stars – Asamoah Gyan

General Captain of the Black Stars of Ghana, Asamoah Gyan has annulled rumours that he has retired from the national side.

Gyan has posited that he is still available and will honour a call-up to the Ghana senior national team, Black Stars if invited.

Gyan, who is Ghana’s leading top-scorer with 51 goals, hasn’t been invited into the team since 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which he played a bit-part role.

Prior to the tournament, Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement after the coach Kwesi Appiah handed the captain’s arm-band to Andre Ayew but rescinded the decision following a private conversation with President Akufo-Addo and Coach Kwesi Appiah.

“I’m still available for the Black Stars. You know there were a lot of controversies but we were able to settle it.

I haven’t retired from the national team officially. I retired from the national team officially [when] I sent the letter.

I had to … The president spoke to me and I had to just come back to the national team. For now, I am still available till the day I will call it a day for the international side.”

Amid naming his 23-man squad for his clash against Sudan, new coach Charles Akonnor said on Tuesday that he still considers the living legend, Gyan, as part of his plans.
