Guinea suspended by ECOWAS over coup against Alpha Conde

Guinean special forces seized power in a coup, arrested the president, and promised to change the political makeup of the West African country.

The new military leaders led by Mamady Doumbouya announced a nationwide curfew “until further notice”, saying it would convene President Alpha Conde’s cabinet ministers and other senior politicians.

New reports coming in have that Guinea has been suspended by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) after soldiers overthrew President Alpha Conde in a coup d’etat following a meeting that was virtually held yesterday.

ECOWAS also requested the restoration of constitutional order and the quick release of Conde, who was detained on Sunday by special troops led by Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.

It was also revealed in the course of the meeting that some diplomats will be sent to Guinea by today.
