Good News For MOMO Users As CEO Speaks On 1.75% Tax

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Mobile Money Mr. Elli Hini has sent some good news to people who use the mobile money services as well as agents over the 1.75% tax imposed by the government.

According to Mr. Elli Hini, the mobile telcos are having very serious and in-depth conversations with the government on the imposing of the new taxes and ways they can be able to make things easier for their customers and agents.

Mr. Elli Hini who was speaking during the MTN Mobile Money Awards held in Takoradi over the weekend revealed that the discussion which is been done privately would soon be made public when they come to a solid conclusion.

The words of the CEO of Mobile money come after the Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta came out to reveal during the 2022 budget reading that there would be a 1.75% tax imposed on all electronic transactions so the government can be able to raise more money to fix the country.

Speaking during the address he stated saying;

After much thought, the government has decided to impose a fee on all electronic transactions in order to broaden the tax net and bring in the informal sector,” he stated. This will be known as the E-levy (Electronic Transaction Levy).”
