GHc180K missing in Suame Municipal Assembly

An amount of GH₵180,000 meant for the procurement of a pickup has been identified missing in the accounts of the Suame Municipal Assembly.

Assemblymember of Suame Kotoko, Honorable Eric Owusu Ansah who confirmed the incident said a budget of GH₵360,000 was made to purchase two pickups vehicles to ease revenue mobilization in 2018 yet after one of the cars was secured, the other has refused to show up hence the necessity for the Assembly to provide answers or account for the unavailable asset.

He said;

“In 2018 we demanded cars to assist our revenue mobilization.

“The Assembly came to a decision to procure two pickups with a budget of GH₵360,000. One of the cars was purchased in 2018 but the remainder is yet to be seen up till now.

“In our last meeting on 31 March, the Honorable Member for Tarkwa, Hon. Kofi Boakye Ansah wrote to the secretary of the assembly on the whereabouts of the remaining car but we (Assembly members) were not content with the response he gave.

“I (Honorable Eric Owusu Ansah) was the one who brought the agenda of the pick up on board to have it discussed but from the look of things, their explanation is not convincing.”

“Whenever the Assembly make a decision, it is up to some people to implement on our behalf therefore the MCE and the Coordinating Director and anybody involved must either refund the money or the car because they have caused financial loss to the Assembly, “he said.

“We were voted into office to represent the people and safeguard their finances to develop their welfare. We have waited till 2018 and none is showing up. That is why we are serious about the case.

When asked if the transport committee failed to live their mandate in the Municipal concerning the case, he told that “the transport committee is not in charge of buying a car. The Assembly does through procurement then it becomes the duty of the committee to protect it.”
