Social media has been buzzing with responses to the NDC Youth Wing’s Manifesto Promise to eliminate fees for new entrants in public universities if they come into power in December 2024.
At the launch of its Youth Manifesto at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra, the NDC, through a member of the party’s Youth Manifesto Committee Festus Mwingsong Akyuuro, announced the campaign promise to eliminate the payment of school fees for new entrants (level 100 students) in any public university.
The party stated that the policy to cover fees for level 100 students aimed to address challenges faced by SHS graduates whose ambitions to enter the university are hindered by their inability to pay admission fees or meet specific financial requirements before being admitted into any public university.
However, the public’s reaction to the latest campaign promise in the NDC Youth Manifesto has been mixed. While some have praised the NDC for this commendable policy, others have expressed less enthusiasm, arguing that the policy will only benefit new entrants in state universities.
Some have also described the NDC Youth Manifesto policy as a replica of the NPP’s Free Education policy, which the NDC previously deemed unattainable.
The NDC’s Youth Manifesto Launch, which occurred in Accra on August 12th, 2024, was led by the party’s 2024 flagbearer and former president, John Dramani Mahama, along with several party leaders in attendance.
