Ghana Movie Awards Do ‘Yawa’ as Sound Man hijacks show over unpaid debts

The 2019 edition of the Ghana Movie Awards which took place at the National Theatre last Friday December 20 was brought to a stand still.

Proceedings at the events was suspended temporarily over what appeared as a confusion between some technical handlers and the Chief Executive Officer of the event.

There was a number of embarrassing moments for organizers but the biggest one was when the sound technician hired for the event refused to provide sound until he was paid a debt of Ghc 1,500 owed him.

The technician literally held the program hostage as he refused to provide sound. Afia Schwarzenegger the MC was on stage but her microphone was not working holding up the program which already started 4 hours too late.

The technician refused to restore the sound despite the pleas of Fred Nuamah and his colleagues, insisting the Ghc 1,500 be paid in full.

In the end, organizers had to take his mobile money number and transfer him the cash right there and then before he restored the sound for the program to continue.

Other challenges aside the sound wahala was low patronage of the event and technical challenges with playbacks for the various nominees.
