Free SHS Is Causing Malaria – NDC’s Peter Otokunor

Though his Ex-Prez John Dramani Mahama has vowed to continue Nana Addo’s FREE SHS policy, his deputy General Secretary, Peter Otokunor has made a bad remark.

According to the deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Otokunor, Nana Addo’s Free SHS is causing teenage pregnancies and malaria.

“Students enjoying free SHS are being bitten by mosquitoes because there is no school building to sit in to learn; they are getting pregnant here and there because when their track ends and they go home, they have nothing to do; that is why we were advocating for infrastructure”, Peter Otokunor said.

His comments are coming after President Nana Addo said that there are people in this country who don’t want Free SHS to operate.

Nana Addo’s remarks has generated a lot of reactions especially from the opposition NDC who feel President Akufo-Addo’s attack on John Mahama is unnecessary.

Adding his voice to the debate in an interview on Neat FM, Otokunor feels ‘Akufo-Addo has lost touch’ with issues because Mahama and the NDC have never opposed the Free SHS policy.

“He is not in touch with the reality in this country; he is completely out of touch because NDC has continuously indicated that we will review the free SHS policy. Never had we said we were going to scrap it . . . so if those around Akufo-Addo will not wake him up from his slumber, we will . . . ” he said.
