Madam Theresa Amankwah, an inmate of the Nsawam Prison who was rescued by Newcastle United and Blackstar player, Christian Atsu has been reported dead at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital.
According to the reports, the woman who was arrested for selling ‘weed’ died whiles receiving treatment at the hospital financed by Christian Astu through the Crime Check Foundation.
The deceased was serving 10year sentence for selling Indian hemp.
While alive, she revealed to Ibrahim that hardship led her to trade in the illegal substance as she needed money to feed herself, children and grandchildren.
In the course of serving her sentence she was hit by a serious sickness and Atsu from Crime Check Foundation financed her treatment at Korle-bu where she underwent surgery.
The surgery proved successful after which she was put on dialysis but shortly after this she passed away.
According to Ibrahim Kwarteng the family deceased inmate says they want the Prison Service to bury her as they can’t mobilize funds to transport their relative back home.
