European Super League: Everything you need to know

European football is about taking a different phase of change should the plans put in place for the establishment of the European Super League materialize.

During the late hours of yesterday, April 18 2021, the world of football was sent into a frenzy following the announcement of a new European football club competition, dubbed the European Super League.

According to reports, this new league is a breakaway from the UEFA Champions League and is set to have its fixtures played during mid-week. Every participating club will, however, still remain in their respective domestic leagues.

Spearheaded by Florentino Perez (President of Real Madrid) with the assistant leadership of Andrea Agnelli (President of Juventus) and Joel Glazer (Co-chairman of Manchester United); who will both serve as Vice Presidents – the league is reportedly going to reward its winners more than the UEFA offers Champions League winners and participants.

The European Super League is a European club competition that is set to rival the UEFA Champions League. This news comes off the back of UEFA’s revelations of news plans for the Champions League next season. Detailing the structure of the European Super League, The Times revealed that the proposal for the new league includes a whopping 3.5billion (£3.1billion) euro ‘infrastructure investment plans and to offset the impact of the COVID pandemic.’

The payment of £500million will be made to the competition’s winner and an amount of £310million will be paid to each club that participates in the competition.
