Coronavirus: Gov’t ready to build 25-bed facility at 37 Military Hospital in 3 weeks

A 25-bed special facility with modern equipment to deal with infectious diseases is expected to be completed in the next three weeks.

Government is funding the project with the support of the World Bank as part of measures to deal with the threat of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu who gave details of the project in Parliament on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, said the plan is part of the renovation of the Debra ward at the 37 Military Hospital.

“We are actually working with the World Bank to accelerate the rate at which we want to complete the Debra ward at the 37 Military Hospital. We have three weeks for the contractor to handover the project to us.”

The Ministry is also set to receive an additional GHS11 million to help it prepare and contain an outbreak of the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, should it surface in the country.

Kwaku Agyeman Manu said the Ministry is still in talks with the Finance Ministry on getting more resources at its disposal.
