Clive Staples Lewis was born on 29 November 1898 and died on 22 November 1963. His parents Albert, and Florence Augusta Hamilton, possessed first-rate minds, and they were members of the Church of Ireland. The father was a solicitor and the mother graduated from the Royal University of Ireland. Both of them were avid readers. He had one sibling named Warren Lewis.

Lewis grew up with the dream of becoming a notable poet but after his first publications in 1919. He was a prolific writer and formed a close friendship with other Oxford fellows such as J. R. R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, and Owen Barfield. They formed an informal group known as the ‘Inklings’. They usually meet at pubs in Oxford such as ‘The Eagle and Child’ where they would read parts of their novels. He encouraged Tolkien as he wrote his epic ‘The Lord of the Rings.’
