Gospel Musician, Brother Sammy has joined the conversation on the need for gospel musicians to be honoured and recognized by Award Schemes.
Few days ago, several online portals reported on some gospel crusaders demanding that organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards honour a veteran gospel musician with a lifetime achievement award this year.
There have been reactions from some gospel musicians who do not agree with this demand, notable amongst them is veteran gospel singer Bernice Offei.
Bernice Offei in a recent interview with Franky 5 reiterated the popular biblical teaching that the rewards of those who serve God through Jesus Christ, including gospel musicians are in heaven.
The latest to react to this developing story is gospel musician brother Sammy.
In an interview with Multimedia’s MzGee, the gospel musician, Brother Sammy, did not only call for a veteran gospel artist to be honoured but also stated awards encourages them as gospel musicians to do more.
“Its a good thing, because they started the job and we are now eating from it. Their time there was no money in the music industry so I think when they do that thing it is good.
Moreover, they started it and we are benefiting. So I think its a good idea. So I think when they get the award its good”
The gospel musician added that though people are of the view that their main focus is to win souls, they ought to eat from their venture.
“We are already winning souls for the Lord but we need to eat too. When you are winning souls, it means you won’t eat?”
MzGee asked if the awards are food – dumb question?
“Award is not food, but when you are doing something and people acknowledge, it gives you the morale to do more, it gingers you,” he answered.
