During an interview on Akina FM two days ago, John Mahama stated without fear that he will not allow the next general election that will come off in 2024 to be rigged as it was done almost a year ago as he and his party would make sure everything is done right or it would be a “Do or Die” affair.
These comments from the former president received mixed reactions from Ghanaians as many slandered him for dropping such a below-belt comment.
High-ranking members of the NPP party such as John Boadu amongst several others have come out to censure John Mahama and further taunted him to retract his comments.
The former president in reaction to these backlashes from his critics has equivocally stated he will never retract his comments neither today nor tomorrow.
The general secretary of the NDC party, Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketiah has also thrown his weight behind John Mahama for projecting 2024’s elections will be a dor or die affair.
According to him, it is an idiomatic expression in the English Language hence those who don’t understand should use the dictionary.
Whiles speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Aseidu Nketiah said;
What has Mahama done wrong? I think people want to disrupt us from the good things we are doing. When we say ‘do or die’ assignment, it means you must use all your energies to do something, I don’t see how this is problematic unless for those who do not understand or fail to understand the obvious. He was communicating in the English language. And in the English language, there are idiomatic expressions. Whoever does not understand it, may look it up in the dictionary. It is the Queen’s language.
We don’t think this should be something people should be worried about at all. So if no one is interested in destroying the results, why should that statement scare anybody? I don’t see why people should make a fuss about this thing at all. I am so surprised about this hypocrisy. People are trying to make mountain out of a molehill. If someone has issues with this, he should go and blame his English teacher, he should not be worrying us.
