Asante Kotoko Sack C.K Akonnor As Head Coach

Asante Kotoko have asked head coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, alias C.K Akonnor to step aside after nine months of being in charge.

Akonnor’s future with the club came under the spotlight following Kotoko’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.

There were wild campaign in the local media in Kumasi in particular- home of the Ghanaian giants, to get the former Hearts of Oak gaffer axed.

While the club’s supporters were divided on one front, the club’s top hierarchy has decided to terminate the future of the former Black Stars skipper.

Confirming the news to Kumasi-based radio station, Oyerepa FM, Akonnor said he has been offered a technical directory role at the Baba-Yara based club but refused to comment whether he has accepted the new role or not.

Yes, it’s true, am no more the coach of Kotoko. I have been asked to step aside but to take over as technical director. I can’t comment.”

“In a meeting, I was told this. I am even in Accra now,”

C.K Akonnor stated.

Akonnor guided the Porcupine Warriors to the group stages of the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup and a triumph in the just ended Normalization Committee’s Special Cup.

However, Oyerepa Sports reports that Ashantigold head coach Kjetil Zachariassen is likely to take over the vacant Kotoko coaching job.
