AFCON 2019: “I Will Bring Gyan Out At The Right Time” – Kwesi Appiah

James Kwesi Appiah – Head Coach of the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, has affirmed his confidence in the former captain of the team, Asamoah Gyan.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday, Coach Appiah said, he believes in the qualities of Gyan, adding that he was an experienced player with a lot to offer the team.

He added that Gyan was an integral part of his team and would call on his services at the right time.

“No one believes in Gyan than myself. I know what he is capable of doing and would deploy him at the right time.  According to Coach Appiah, he knows the qualities of Gyan and what he can do at any given time but selections were based on what tactics and formation he chooses to play in a game.

“I have so much belief in Asamoah Gyan and I can say that no one believes in him more than me, but the most important thing is that every coach assesses his team at training and determine which player would suit a formation to be played”.

Coach Appiah, who refused to state whether or not Gyan would feature in the next game, he said “I don’t think there would be a lot of changes to my starting lineup, my selection would depend on how we want to play on that day,” he added.

Ghana takes on Guinea-Bissau at 16 hours GMT in an all-to play for an encounter as Group F is wide open with all four countries having the chance to progress to the knock-out stage.
