Veteran musician Kojo Antwi has admonished Ghanaians against comparing our musicians to Nigerian counterparts, claiming it is not right.
The music man as he is affectionately called was commenting on the heels of the recent controversy that generated on social media about Ghanaian muscians not being able to fill the O2 Arena in London.
This argument came after Nigerian musician Davido gave a sterling performance at a sold out show at the O2 Arena.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Kojo Antwi stated that it is very possible for a Ghanaian musician to fill the 20,000 capacity venue but they need support and encouragement from Ghanaians.
According to him, Ghana’s population is nowhere near that of Nigeria, plus there are many Nigerains abroad than Ghanaians hence the numbers come to play in the game.
“I do not like hearing those comparisons. Do you know the population of Nigeria? Do you know how many Nigerians are in the UK? You see Ghana is just like one of the states in Nigeria. You are talking about over 200million people and how many are we?,” he quizzed.
He flashed back to moments when himself and Daddy Lumba filled the Bristol Academy.
“My self and Lumba, we filled the Bristol Academy. We need the support of our people, they should believe in us, we can do it. O2 is no place, we can do it. So we shouldn’t be doing that comparison, Nigerians are doing it and they take inspiration from us,”he said.
He added that Ghanaians must inspire the musicians to see beyond the National theatre and do something different from the usual.
