‘This is for Burna Boy’ – Angélique Kidjo says after winning Grammy Award for the 4th time

Top African singer Angelique Kidjo won the coveted award for Best World Music’ for her album ‘Celia’ at the just-ended Grammy Awards 2020.

Giving his speech after clinching the award for the fourth time, Angelique Kidjo dedicated the award to her competitor from Nigeria Burna boy.

Angelique Kidjo acknowledged the enormous talents that reside in Africa and implored patrons and the world at large to look out for artistes like Burna Boy.

“The new generation of artists coming from Africa is going to take you by storm and the time has come.” Though the World Music category remains a dubious one, Burna Boy’s nomination was a major milestone for contemporary African music and the significance was not lost on Kidjo

“This is for Burna Boy, [he] is among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived, and the way African music has been the bedrock for every [type] of music,” she remarked.
