Arrest pedestrians who don’t use Adentan-Madina footbridges — Residents to police

Residents of Adentan-Madina are appealing to the government through the police service to crack the whip on recalcitrant pedestrians who fail to use any of the completed footbridges in the area.

Leader of the defunct coalition, ‘fixourfootbridgesnow’, Julius Atsu on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Wednesday said they won’t tolerate such indiscipline in the area.

Many pedestrians still cross the dangerous Adentan-Madina Highway despite violent protests eight months ago which led to the construction of some footbridges along the stretch.

On November 8, 2018, the residents poured onto the streets after a female student of the West Africa Senior High School was killed in a hit-and-run incident.

It was one of many such knockdowns which the residents blamed on the unavailability of proper crossing aids, mainly footbridges.

However, even after the completion of some of the six footbridges, some pedestrians continue to defy orders of security stewards and cross the road.

Their only difficulty is spending just four minutes of their time to climb the bridge to the other side of the road for their own safety.

Mr Atsu said if police personnel are deployed to the area to ensure strict adherence, all residents would comply.
