Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has come out to reveal that it is planning on accepting the Ghana Card as the only authentic proof of citizenship that any Ghanaian should have before they can register to vote.
According to them, they are thinking about using the Ghana card for the next election that would take place in 2024.
The Director of Electoral Services at the EC Dr. Serebour Quaicoe speaking during an interview with the Ghana News Agency revealed that the Electoral Commission has already agreed with the political parties and was waiting for an amendment of the registration laws by Parliament to give legal backing to the move.
According to him the new law when implemented would deter people who do not have the Ghana identity chit from registering to vote in the elections that would take place.
He further went ahead to add that anyone who would like to have the Voters ID card wouldn’t be able to use the ghana Passport as well as a guarantor except the use of the card.
