It is senseless to jail someone for smoking weed – Kwame Sefa Kay fumes

Ace broadcaster and Peace FM’s Kokrokro morning show host, Kwame Sefa Kayi, has been appointed a board member of the National Petroleum has stated that it is senseless for the court to jail for just smoking weed.

According to the revered morning show host, Ghana must be smart because other nations are cashing out big time on the marijuana business.

Whiles speaking in an interview on Joy Tv, he said;

Why are we focusing everything on the smoking of the herb and we’ve zeroed in on that and so from when before independence, we were burning marijuana farms, marijuana farms because it is on our statutory books. If those who used to arrest people for transporting, importing, or exporting marijuana, today, are trading among themselves, today, have found medicinal value for marijuana, why are we still sitting here arresting people for possessing (marijuana).

So he has one roll of marijuana; something small and we will jail him for 10 years and yet, it is a multi-billion dollar business out there. Why are we refusing to think outside the box?

I agree with Kwame Sefa Kayi on this submission of his because Canada generated a whooping $2 billion dollars from the marijuana business in 2020 alone after legalizing the use of the herb in 2019.

Most of the young people in our various prsions were thrown behind bars for just smoking a piece of marijuana which I think it’s very unfair.

We deal with petty crimes with iron hands whiles our wicked and corrupt leaders walk freely after embezzling the state’s funds.
