Wole Soyinka, a Nigerian Nobel laureate has tasked the Federal Government of Nigeria to apologize and cease chasing Sunday Igboho following the raid on his home by personnel from the Department of State Services.
Recall that the DSS raided Igboho’s home in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, July 1, based on intelligence that he (Sunday Igboho) was collecting weapons to cause mayhem in the region during his Yoruba Nation rally on Saturday, July 3 in the Ojota area of Lagos.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin on Monday, the literary giant said President Muhammadu Buhari‘s government’s actions during the assault on Sunday Igboho‘s home “stinks.”
Soyinka advised the federal government on how to proceed, saying, “They should quit chasing Igboho as a criminal because you started by acting criminally against him.”
If and when Igboho comes to trial, I guarantee you the government will be very embarrassed.
I think they should tell Igboho ‘we made a mistake’, ‘we should not have acted in this way’, ‘you are no longer wanted’, ‘go back to your home, in fact escort him to his home’ and let him resume his normal life.
