5 Killed In Car Accident Around Nsawam

Gossips24.com has learnt from a report by 3news.com that five persons have died in an accident that occurred at Okanta on the Suhum-Adoagyir highway.

The accident occurred Sunday evening.

The Nsawam Division Police Commander, Superintendent Mariam Osei Adu Owusu, confirmed the death toll of the accident to 3news.com on Monday.

She said police preliminary findings suggest over-speeding and wrongful over-taking caused the avoidable accident.

Four different vehicles were involved. An over-speeding saloon vehicle wrongfully overtook others running into three other vehicles after a head-on collision with one.

All five deceased are Muslims returning from a programme in Koforidua.

The deceased were trapped in the vehicle for hours as it took the intervention of the Suhum Ghana National Fire Service personnel and the police to retrieve the bodies.

Two of the vehicles were mangled beyond recognition.

Passengers on board who were injured were taken to the Nsawam Government Hospital for medical treatment.

Bodies of the deceased have also been deposited at the morgue of the hospital for preservation and identification.

Superintendent Mariam Osei Adu says lawful procedures would be followed in investigations before bodies are released to families.
