Solomon Adu Antwi is a Ghanaian born celebrated Hiplife virtuoso who performs under the stage name Yaa Pono or better still Ponobiom. He’s often regarded as the King of Ghanaian freestyle music and quite impressive in the Hiplife genre.
Early Life – Born to Mr Solomon Antwi a military officer and Mrs Gloria Antwi of blessed memory, Yaa Pono A.k.a Ponobiom was born and breed in the Tema metropolis – a business city in Ghana. He started his basic education at Star Of Hope Academy and completed his junior high school education at Bright Future International School all in the Tema metropolis . Legend has it that; Yaa pono was originally admitted at Osei Tutu Senior High for his senior high school education but got expelled whilst he was in second year due to a breach of school rules and regulations – so he had to complete his high school education at Toase Senior High School . Both schools are in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Music Career – His first appearance on radio was for a rap competition believed to be in the early months of 1995. Often regarded as the Ghana’s finest freestyle act of all time – Ponobiom penetrated into mainstream media in the early 2000’s with his unique flow and brilliant use of metaphors not forgetting his dexterity on the microphone. Yaa Pono proved to be a league of his own after he metamorphically murderd all his opponents on Dr Duncan’s Kasahare level which was aired on Adom Fm. In 2009, the multi – talented rapper got signed under Pidgin Music Record Label owned by Panji Annoff – one of the pioneers for the Hiplife genre agenda in the Ghanaian music industry. Yaa Pono is currently signed under his own record label (Uptown Energy) with budding acts such as ; Shuga Kwame , Kwame Bene and numerous budding rappers working under him.
Songs and albums – Yaa Pono’s all time most patronized song is (Obiaa Wone Master) which was released in 2018 with Stonebwoy as a featured artiste. This hiplife song lobbied for him to win 3 major awards at 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Edition.
The rapper who’s quite impressive in the Hiplife genre has more than 400 singles to his credit; 1 studio album and 5 mixtapes. He was set to release his second studio album this year (April) but had to reschedule the date due to the Coronavirus pandemic
Awards and Achievements – In the year 2019, the prolific Hiplife artiste received his first ever Vodafone Ghana Music Awards recognition. He emerged as the winner of the Hiplife song of the year category and further received two more awards in different categories. He has also received numerous nominations from several local and international bodies most especially (Ghana Music Awards U.K.)
Family Life – After dating for close to seven years, Yaa Pono married his long time girlfriend Mzqua on April 27, 2018. They are blessed with q beautiful baby girl with hopes of producing more babies in the future.
Networth and properties – Yaa Pono is believed to have in his custody a fortune close to $300,000. He owns two houses at East Legon owns three Luxury cars.
