Himba: The African tribe that offers free s3x to visitors

The Himba people, also known as the Ovahimba or Omhimba, residing in Namibia’s Kunene region, are a captivating and distinct group with customs that may raise eyebrows among outsiders. Their culture is a mosaic of traditions and practices that set them apart.

One of the most remarkable aspects of their culture is their practice of offering free s3x to guests. This custom, while intriguing, reflects the Himba people’s unique way of welcoming visitors.

Additionally, they have the tradition of adorning newborns with bead necklaces, adding a touch of vibrant color to their lives from the very beginning.

What further distinguishes the Himba people is their isolationist lifestyle. They are cautious about external influences and work diligently to preserve their customs and beliefs.

Their resistance to the forces of modernization and globalization sets them apart as a community that has steadfastly clung to its traditions.

The Himba people are primarily engaged in livestock breeding and farming, with women taking on responsibilities such as gathering firewood, cooking, fetching water, and caring for their families.

The community is deeply religious, revering their ancient gods and adhering to age-old spiritual practices.

Polygamy is common within the tribe, and young girls are often married at a young age, a practice not uncommon in various African societies.

However, what truly stands out is their approach to personal hygiene. Due to the harsh desert climate and limited access to water, bathing as we know it is challenging for the Himba people.

To overcome this challenge, they use red ochre on their skin and engage in a daily smoke bath. This involves placing charcoal in a bowl filled with herbs, allowing the smoke to rise, and then bowing over the smoking bowl. The heat induces perspiration, helping to cleanse their bodies in the absence of water.

Despite their unique way of life, the Himba people are known for their friendliness towards strangers and visitors. However, they are fiercely protective of their culture and resist outside interference.

Their story is a testament to the resilience of traditional practices in the face of an ever-changing world.
