Germany To Enter Second Lockdown Phase from November 2.

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany has announced that the country will enter into a second face of lockdown lasting four weeks and is set to commence on November 2.

This measure has become necessary according to her in order to control the coronavirus spread that has seen a surge in numbers and deaths.

The lockdown is going to involve; Closure of Bars and pubs, Restaurants except takeaway; shut down of Gyms, cinemas and theatres;  Ban of Indoor gatherings for more than 10 people and between more than two households; Closure of Hotels to tourists – staying open only for “essential reasons”; and Shops will stay open but with a maximum of one person per 10 square metres.

Schools and nursing homes are however expected to remain open.

According to Merkel, these measures are tough but have become required to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed.

She said;

“If the pace of infections continues like this, then we’ll reach the limits of what the health system can manage within weeks,”

“We need to take action now,”

This comes after it was announced earlier today by the disease control unit of Germany that new cases of 14,964 have been recorded in one day.
