Nigerians living in Ghana have carried out a peaceful protest in Accra, as a show of solidarity and support for their brothers and sisters back in Nigeria, and to register displeasure at President Muhammadu Buhari.

Some of the Nigerian youth who thronged the Nigeria High Commission in Ghana held placards and were in black attire to express their displeasure of the happenings in their country.

The protesters added their voice to their colleagues in Nigeria, and asked for the  immediate resignation of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

It can be recalled that, Nigerians in and around the world have held series of protests against police brutality, and called on their authorities to disband the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) which is notoriously famed for illegal arrest, extortion, murders, harassment, and other social vices.

Although the government has listened to the protesters and disbanded the police unit which was created in late 1992, the personnel were redeployed to the SWAT unit of the police, leading to the continuation of the protest as people call for total reformation in all aspects of Nigeria’s political system.

The peaceful protest was supervised by the Ghana Police Service, with the Nigerians praising the Ghana police for their high level of professionalism as opposed to their native land where at least seven people have been killed on Tuesday at Lekki Toll Gate.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has called for “understanding and calm”.

A statement from the presidency said President Buhari was committed to the implementation of police reforms.
