It could be recalled that directors of Capital Bank including Mensa Otabil were implicated in causing the bank’s collapse. After the state handed over GH¢ 610m to be used to revitalize the bank, they misused that money as well for their own personal issues.

Yet to this day, everyone involved in that case remains a free man. It’s in the light of this that cantankerous Ghanaian lawyer, Maurice Ampaw has called on Akuffu-Addo led government to do the needful by bringing Mensa Otabil and his cohorts to book.

According to Lawyer Ampaw, if the government wants to be fair, then Otabil and Essien should be facing prosecution just as Menzgold Ghana CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah.

Speaking on Kumasi Fm, Ampaw said the two have not received any punishment for their roles in the Capital Bank collapse saga, even after it emerged that they had taken state money given to revive the bank and used it for their own personal purposes.

According to him, if the President wants to be fair and make sure those culpable for fraud are punished in every case, Otabil should be facing the same issues a NAM 1.

“There was a bank fraud in Ghana and President Nana Addo told us that the persons involved will be dealt with. He told us persons found culpable will be prosecuted. Bank of Ghana Governor also told us that they will deal with them, however, Mensa Otabil, Ato Essien and others are walking as free men”.

Ampaw again made it emphatic that he don’t understand why the incumbent government is using all its energies to persecute NAM 1 whilst Otabil and his cohorts go scot-free. “Is it because the Finance Minister is a member of Otabil’s church?”, he quizzed.
