Ghanaian musician Kwame Asare popularly known as A-Plus has revealed in a recent interview that Charter House’s decision to nominate Shatta Wale-My Level for Highlife Song of the year doesn’t make sense.
Explaining further, A-Plus stated that Shatta Wale is a dancehall artiste and does not need to be nominated in any other category.
According to him, hip-life is a mixture of rap and singing, hence making room for hiplife artists to be in the rap category as well.
In an interview with Abeiku Santana on ATUU, the hiplife artist cum activist stated that it is demeaning for VGMA to make such an error but Shatta coming back to the award scheme wanted to keep a clean-sheet hence stayed mute on the nomination.
His assertion was a response to a question posed to him as to whether VGMA was wrong for nominating Shatta Wale – My Level for the Highlife Song Of The Year which led to his win.
“It is demeaning! This is not how highlife sounds, is this how Amandzeba sings? Will highlife still be in existence till date if this is how it sounds. But Amandzeba is part of the board”, he said.
He added that Shatta Wale didn’t come for that award because he knew it wasn’t right.
