Ghana is still deliberating on SP Martin A.B.K Amidu’s resignation.
In the said resignation letter addressed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Martin Amidu said his resignation had been occasioned by the First Gentleman’s inability to ensure his independence and freedom of action(s).
After Amidu’s letter, the ruling NPP and the Presidency have released letters as responses to the immediate past SP.
In a statement signed by the Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, however, denied Amidu’s claims, insisting that Mr. Amidu was given enough freedom to operate independently.
Also, the Board of the Office of Special Prosecutor convened an emergency meeting over the resignation of former SP Martin Amidu.
Mr Amidu who had cited what he described as “political interference in the independence of his office” as the main reason for his decision to resign is really trending.
Recall that in a letter dated a few days ago and addressed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mr Amidu said his position had become ‘untenable’, especially with regard to the corruption risk assessment he conducted on the Gold Royalties Monetisation Transaction arrangement, popularly referred to as the Agyapa Deal.
He furthered that the reaction he got from the Presidency on the corruption risk assessment was the final push that led to his resignation.
Board meeting
It has been gathered that the board met Tuesday morning over the resignation and the members are expected to meet President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo later.
