Ikedi Ohakim, the former Governor of Imo State who was sued by the Inspector General of Police concerning a land he wanted to sell, has been granted bail today, November 11.

He was also charged on two other counts including using the name of the minister of works and housing, Babatunde Fashola, illegally as the owner of the land.

Read the charges below

“In May 2019, Ohakim gave false information against one Chinyere Amuchienwa that she threatened you with gun knowing it to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 140 of the Penal Code Laws of the Northern Nigeria.

“That you Ikedi Ohakim, on or about the 23rd day of May 2019, at Asokoro, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did unlawfully gave false information against one Chinyere Amuchienwa, that you have a plot of land for sale at Lagos state, knowing it to be false…”

Although Ohakim pleaded not guilty to the charges, the court presided over by Justice Samira Bature, granted him a bail of N100m with one surety worth the same amount.

The surety according to the judge must be a noble person living in and around Abuja. He further cautioned the defendant to be wary of meddling with the case or risk losing the bail.

The case has since been adjourned to January 2021.
