Police in Cambodia have arrested a man believed to be a Nigerian for allegedly paying his traffic fine with counterfeit US$100 note.
The middle aged man, whose name is yet to be identified, was arrested in Phnom Penh on Monday, November 9, at 10:40 am and sent to Khan Dongkor police station.
Information reaching Gossips24.com indicated that, traffic policemen were standing at Chamkar Dong bridge traffic light when the Nigerian man drove his Prius car through a red light on street 371 and turned on to street 217 to Chamkar Dong road. He was immediately detained and fined for violating traffic regulations.
Per reports in the local media in Cambodia, the Nigerian man tried to pay the fine with a $100 note but the cops had no change. Thus, they took the money to the bank for change, only to be told that it was fake.
Upon return from the bank with the fake notes, the suspect suddenly ripped up, saying he would not pay the fine.
The Police subsequently arrested him, and sent to Khan Dongkor police station for questioning were he was charged with possession and distribution of fake currency note.
