Following the plans that the Federal Government of Nigeria is making to control the use of social media in the country, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has opposed it.
According to the Association, the positive benefits of the use of social media in the country exceeds its negative impact. Also, regulating it would be an infringement on the freedom of speech of Nigerians which must not happen.
Apostle Andy Nyeneime, President of CAN youth wing who on November 3 addressed some reporters also addded that some people make their earnings from social media while others impact lives through it.
The Association is therefore committed to the opposition of this move by government.
“Social media is a strong platform that can be used to sharpen discussions, even though it has negative sides. Millions of people make their daily living from social media, even when some people claim that it destroys. Millions of others are also learning from social media.
“In fact, Facebook seems to be the strongest religion in the world. The fact that there are few negative sides to it does not mean that there are no good sides.
“Undoubtedly, the positive side of social media outweighs the negative side.” Pasor Andy Said.
